Beginning your Planning

Generously sized, the Tristan is an ideal two-person bathtub.

First, and most importantly, set your budget. How much would you like to spend, and how much are you willing to spend? The two may not be the same, in either direction. If financing is required, will an equity line of credit be required or can you simply refinance your existing mortgage to take advantage of increased equity? Remember that quality products and components may cost more, but they will bring you more enjoyment and value for many years.

Do some research. Look through home magazines or surf home remodeling sites. Go on local home tours that often showcase new and innovative uses of space and help define how spaces work together.

Next, consult with a remodeler who specializes in the bath area. A professional remodeler can determine if an architect is needed and can manage the project for you, including hiring sub-contractors, coordinating the work and supervising the installation. MTI recommends that you select a professional remodeler who is a member of the NKBA (National Kitchen & Bath Association), and NAHBR (National Association of Builders Remodeler), and/or NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry).
